We all have felt that aching of the spirit, that deep-down hunger and seemingly unquenchable thirst for something we couldn’t identify. We’ve all felt that loss of direction, purpose or meaning in life – even when, and perhaps, especially when – we’re doing the things we wanted to do most.
We come to the point where, like the sages of the Old Testament, we say: “In vain does man labor. All is vanity.” And it seems as if all our efforts – life itself – is so futile. What is it that’s happening here?
Don’t make it about yourself
Don’t make your religion, your faith – your life – about you. It is a gratuitous gift from God. Don’t make your walk with the Lord about your spiritual abilities. And, for that matter, don’t make it about your miserable failings by indulging in endless self-pity. He chose you, not the other way around. The man who loses Grace through weakness has the means to recover it and be redeemed. As he falls on his own, so on his own he can be redeemed by using the perpetual gifts which Christ instituted for all men who wish to draw from them.

Coming to terms with personal sin
One of the most troublesome things I observe in myself and others is the inability to to come to terms with our personal – and especially moral – weaknesses.
Generally, we know the human condition is one characterized by disorder, division, imbalance. We see the effects of evil all around us. We don’t have any trouble admitting that.

Time to Show Up and Be You
If we knew how much influence we truly could have, we might take God more seriously and collaborate with His plan to be who He intended us to be and be busy about His work as He intended us to carry it out.
We each are a voice of the new evangelization and, if we but had the faith, we would use every legitimate means to carry it out.
But we often get stuck in an egocentric mindset, which leads us to show what we can do on our own without God’s help, or we are held back by fear – again trusting only in ourselves, believing we have little to offer.
